    It comes out here next week.

    But I'm having a terrible time finding a 2D showing. 3D just doesn't work for me: I get two separate fuzzy images, neither of which does anything useful.

    It's a shame - it's on from this weekend at the World's Biggest Imax Screen, which is about 10 minutes from here. But I'm going to have to wait at least another week for 2D, and it'll be at a normal-sized cinema. Grrr.

    Honestly...I'm not a huge fan of JJ. Abrams. His execution is supremely formulaic.
    And I think he had a Cow swimming in a river of Piranha with his last Star Trek outing.

    I HOPE this newest movie is at least "good" if not great, but more for the health of the entire franchise. I've watched "Star Trek" since I was a kid, and I just like to see good things for the franchise.

    I can't tell much from any of the previews, but IMO you need a storyline that is worthy of holding interest. Special Effects and action sequences you can get anywhere and are the expected norm, but I think it sinks or swims from whether the story and character development can hold interest.

    The reviews (or at the headlines I've skimmed) have been overall very positive. 'Star Trek Into Darkness' Heading Where None Has Gone Before: Foreign Profitability - Yahoo! Movies mentions

    Unfortunately, movie studios are in the business to make money. So, if they think doing this allows them to make more $ and can also allow them to have a larger budget, that's the way it's going to be.

    I can see where purists are complaining about JJ-verse and things being so different then the original timeline, but there's really no other alternative.

    Well, of course he'd go for the environmentally-friendly car over the thirsty Merc or Rolls Royce. It is logical. The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.
