Today I visited some ex-coworkers of mine at the Department of Public Health. They told me that the department finally got two new cars to replace the old ones (which were at the mechanic's more often than they were on the road): two brand new Prii! I forgot to ask what color (but I assume black, since all state vehicles seem to be black).

Well, I thought it was cool...

That is cool! It should make economic sense as well.

The city of Seattle, WA has had about a dozen (or more?) Prii for several years and get additional ones each year to replace other cars that are several years old.. They are replacing what I think were Dodge Neons or something like that.

It's funny that when I first heard they got them and I had to go about 60 miles (one way) they didn't want me to take one because they didn't think it would be a good idea to take one that far. My answer is that "they are Toyotas and they don't built junk and they easily go 400 miles on a tank of gas. So there is no reason for me not to take one."

They caved in and I had zero problems. They were amazed. I wasn't. It's a Toyota dang it!

City cars are almost always white. I guess they couldn't afford color.

I'm happy when cities make wise moves with tax money. This is also good for image and the environment. I'm a little surprised more cities haven't gone national and tried the Ford Escape Hybrid.

Wow, I think this is the second time this has happened. Last week somebody was talking about hybrid taxis the same day I saw a HyCam cab in Boston. Now this afternoon I was behind a beautiful Barcelona Red Prius with MA government plates. Not a bad ride for Government work. :p

I believe the Ford Escape Hybrid uses the Toyota hybrid system. Also, from my own personal experience with three Fords and three Toyotas, stick with the Toyotas until Ford gets their act together.

PS: Initial quality (which Ford claims is as good as Toyotas) is not the same as quality. When Ford will pay for ANY and ALL repairs of any kind up to 200,000 miles if the vehicle isn't abused and all normal maintenance is done, THEN I'll consider buying another Ford. In the meantime, ALL my Toyotas have made it to 200,000 miles with me never having to spend $50 above normal maintenance. My Prius has 5,000 miles. 195,000 plus worry free miles to go.
