    I would like to get better sound from my 2005 prius package 6. I Understand that replacing the head unit is out of the question if I want to keep mfd and steering wheel functionality. I have spoken with several car stereo stores and their recomendation is to add an amplifier and upgrade the four in door speakers. I have two questions about this recomendation. First, will it significantly increase sound quality (assuming that the amp and new speakers are an improvement over what is currently in the car) and second, can these modifications be made without compromising the stereo's integration with the mfd and steering wheel?

    What makes me a bit nervous is that none of the shops I have talked to have worked on Prius sound systems. Are there any Northern California shops with a known track record with prii or is my worry misguided?

    By the way, I have read many of the threads about upgrading the system yourself. This is not an option.

    Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

    I was in the same boat as you not too long ago; looking to improve sound quality from stock head unit. Replacing speakers and adding an amp will make a substantial difference in sound quality. However, you will probably want to add a sub to complete the upgrade.

    You will not have to lose any of your steering wheel controls when adding a sub and speakers btw, those will be disabled if you decide to purchase a new head unit.

    Definitely check out these forums for car audio info;
