Still learning about wheels

    Hello there, new Prius Plug-In owner here. Trying to find some better rims for the 15" that come stock and want to stay 15" for now. Pretty slim pickings out there. Can anyone tell me what would happen if I put on the Drag Dr-33's which are 7" wide... The stock tires are 6", but these come up as a fit on certain wheel vending websites. Thanks!

    7" wheels will be fine with the stock tires, however, I would consider getting lighter wheels than a Drag.

    From what I read it's wheel weight that's affects mpg . The extra width of the wheel will add unnecessary weight meting a lower mpg . Some guys buy ultra light 17's and have 2-3 mpg drop . It's depends a lot on how you drove and where you drive . It's why I opted to stay with the stock 15's and eventually paint them black like the newer oem wheels

    The MR 116's are the least wide, but weigh the most... are any of these going to outshine the others when it comes to fuel efficiency? Are there other models I should be considering in this style?

    Yes I did, but I don't remember seeing anyone discuss which is specifically better for fuel efficiency between a heavier tire or a wider tire - the two Motegi's I listed above are making my choice difficult with fuel efficiency in mind. There were general discussions about such topics, but I was hoping for a MPG expert to chime in hopefully on the specific wheels I listed.

    At 12lbs per wheel, that should help your MPG, I'm not an expert but I know when cycling, the lighter the wheels the easier I climb. The 7" wheel should not change the amount of tire contact on the road as the side walls are really tall.
