My cat converter was stolen 12/28. It was done overnight in the parking lot of my complex. Since my neighbor moved out and the space next to me is open, no doubt they used a floor Jack to lift my car. $2900 repair all but $500 covered by Geico. I bought a Cat Security plate $240 had it installed at midas $114 immediately and am hoping for the best. There's a wave of cat theft here everyone, cops, car rental, midas, asked me if I drove a Prius b4 I told them. $850 flushed thanks to some aholes.

Sad that this particular crime seems to be on the rise.
We have had threads about this happening in the UK.

Unfortunately there is money evidently to be made from the reselling of stolen Catalytic Converters.

I suppose if it becomes to overwhelmingly common more security and protection options will arise. But for now? It's just sucks if you become a victim.

There is a special alloy or metal (can't remember the name of it) inside the catalytic converter that is worth a lot, melted or, as The Electric Me stated just reselling as is. Sorry for your situation. I really hope I never fall victim to this.
