    Hi all,

I do a lot of diagnostic and keys programming but my mechanical knowledge isnt' that good.
I had a minor accident last week and a car hit my Prius from the passenger front corner, and left a small dent, check the red X in the pic.

I noticed after the accident that the engine noise was much higher, I checked all ECUs with Techstream, I found only one error on the Transmission ECU:
C2318 Low Voltage Error(Power supply Malfunction).
Cleared it and didn't show again even after driving 200 miles.

Are there anything behind this area that can cause that noise? or something responsible of reducing the engine noise might be damaged or broken?

I'm confused as to what side of the car you're talking about. You say left but the picture is right. You say passenger but I'm not sure if you're in a LHD or RHD country.

BTW. Is it noisy when the engine is working hard? Or is it more noticeable at low speed noise, like a pump or something making more noise than usual?

I am going to assume that you correctly marked the photo.

The engine air filter enclosure has an intake duct that runs to that side of the car. A white plastic resonating chamber is located in that fender and it is likely that was damaged in the accident, thus causing the excessive air intake noise that you are hearing.

Its mostly when engine is working hard, Its barely notices on low rpm.

Some one told me that there is a air box to reduce engine sound under this part hit ! any ideas?

Thanks Partick, a friend of mine told me the same, do you have any illustration about that part or how to reach it?

I don't have an illustration. If you are going to have the fender repaired then this could also be fixed at the same time.

Otherwise you will have to raise up that corner of the car and remove the front tire. Then remove the black plastic inner fender liner and you should be able to inspect the resonator.

I already fixed the Dent by sneaking my hand from the plastic fender and pushing the dent backward., I'll do what you said on Friday and let you know. Thanks.

If the X in the OP's photo is accurately placed then the resonator chamber might be OK but the intake air ducting should be inspected.

I checked the resonator today but seemed ok and wasnt affected by the accident, can you provide clarification regarding to the intake air ducting? :) english is not my primary language !

Start from the engine air filter enclosure. Look at the duct which provides fresh air to that enclosure. That duct eventually connects to the resonator. Inspect the ducting for damage.

Check your water pumps... They are on that front side and an impact on a genII with a little age could have worn it out. (that's what happened to mine)

Open the hood and take a picture of the passenger side. There's not a whole heck of a lot of stuff there but there is also a little metal cube that is a vibration damper, and you also have the passenger side engine mount.

I checked the water pump with Techstream and made it running alone,it seems to be fine and with low noise, could that noise be caused by the bad engine oil? I used a new brand and drove 2k so far, I'll try to change it sooner, anything else to be checked guys?

Have you checked the plastic covering under the wheel arch? Sometimes if they become loose they can vibrate in the wind as you drive faster. Also there is a plastic tray under the car - that too can vibrate if loose or disconnected. The accident might have just made something looser as the under tray can get damaged after driving through flood water or when you've driven over rough roads - the Prius doesn't have a high ground clearance.

    Hope you get this solved.

Thank you, I had similar suspicion, but I forced the engine to run on high RPM while the car is parked and the sound was also very noisy!
