Just had a Webasto 5300 sunroof installed in my 2007 Prius package 6. Love it. This was the second one accomplished by Hampton Roads Sunroofs of Chesapeake, Va. They are a completely professional outfit doing most of their business with new car dealers. Leather seat conversions also available.
My sunroof cost was $1099 plus tax installed.
    Hampton Roads Sunroofs Phone: 757-436-9919

All of our family vehicles have always had sunroofs except our Solara convertible and the jeeps. Had to do it. I have also owned an 05 HiHy and enjoyed it very much.

Much thanks to craigk and SaeGai06 for their posts!! I studied their input thoroughly. I held off buying a Prius until I knew I could get a sunroof installed. I googled "Prius Sunroof" for years waiting their posts. Even designed my own approach to it. The Webasto 5300 is the new Hollandia 700. One company bought the other or something.

Very nice.Is it manual or electric? How long did the install take and were there problems in working on a Prius compared to other cars ?

Can you take a picture of the sunroof open? Oh, and also, can you please take a picture of the sunroof from the inside? If it is electric, how did they mount the switch?

Thanks. I think it looks great!

    Very smart looking.

    How thick is the unit?

Which leads to, how much headroom was lost?

    Answering your questions.

    1. The folks who did it said they learned how at the national auto accessory show last summer, and that with that knowledge, it was as easy as any other roof. The shop that did it does maybe 10 a day and they are very good. Took them one work day.
    2. The unit is no thicker than the roof. The sliding interior cover panel under the glass is actually recessed 1/4" so there is more headroom. That panel reuses the headliner material from the car, so it is a perfect match.
    3. It is fully electric. The model 5300 I got includes auto close. That is unless you tell it not to, it closes the roof 10 seconds after shut down. Everyone in my family has left a sunroof open by accident at least once, and we've had rain in cars more than once. Good feature. The 4300 is identical in every respect except no auto close feature.
    4. The switch is clealy visible, mounted in the forward (unused) panel in the overhead console. See picture.
    5. Overall I'm impressed with the completely factory look and very smooth operation. It behaves like most sunroofs ( I've had a ton of them). Some buffeting noise below 30 MPH (cracking a back window open stops that) once up to speed it is quieter than many I've experienced. Reminds me of the factory Highlander Hybrid roof, but quieter.
    6. No one asked, but I know you'll want to know. Impact on mileage? Driving home from the install through city rush hour followed by 30 minutes of freeway driving (65mph) then 15 minutes at 55 mph, I got a net 58.6 MPG according to the computer. You don't want to hear this, but that is over 10% better than the trip up there. Ok, there is room for another sunroof in that top. Just kidding. The effect will likely be akin to a difference of 1-3 knots of head or tail wind.
    7. You can go to webasto's website, select your country and find installers. Webasto

    Wow Spur. Great photos.

Was that $1099 for the parts alone, or was that $1099 fully installed?

    That is just too awesome.
The ONLY thing I miss from the Malibu was my moon/sunroof.

Right now, it may not be an option... but, I can see that, someday... ;)

Fantastic! Love moonroofs. Was bummed the Prius didn't come with one.

    a. no money for one
    b. not very confident of any installers here.

Also, Webasto doesn't have Canada as a country <_<

The $1099 price is installed, out the door. Add sales tax.

I also had one installed same model on my 2008 at American Sunroof in San Diego, Ca. They did a super job. Looks like a factory install. Took about 8 hours for them to do it.

For someone less informed, that sunroof would look like a factory option. You typically wouldn't get a sun shield with a cheap product. Very nice professional install.

By the way, does the sunroof flip up in the rear to vent? Or does it just slide back and forth.

I rarely opened my sunroof in my previous car. Mostly, I would use the rear flip/tilt feature to vent hot air.
