I just bought a 2007 Prius Touring. In going through the maintanence schedule it says to change engine and converter coolant every 18 months or 18000 miles, which ever occurs first. This has got to be a joke when they call the Toyota antifreeze super long life.
Have any of you heard anything to the contary?
Sounds like another way for the stealership to make money.

Something is amiss there. Prius since 2004 has been using SLLC in the engine and 'electricals' coolant loops. The first coolant change is scheduled at 100k miles, and subsequently at 50k intervals.

Whose maintenance schedule? Is it the "stealership's" (aptly described, if it's theirs) or Toyota's? Go by Toyota's.

I was at the Toyota dealership today. The Toyota maintenance schedule says to change the coolant every 15000 miles or 18 months. Talked to the service department rep. He said if I brought it in at 15000 miles they would not change the coolant. He said it is a 5 year/100000 coolant.
I don't know what Toyota had in mind when they published that maintenance schedule.

OK, you got me wondering, so I just checked my own maintenance guide. It calls for inspection of the coolant every 15K, replacement at 100K like Doug says. I can't see why that would change to an every 15K replacement with the '07, or why yours would otherwise be different.

At least the dealer's not trying to sell you something you don't need.

At the 15000/18 month maintenance required, there is an index number to see page 21 for details. This is where it tell you change it at 15000/18 months. I will not change it until 100000 or 5 years which ever comes first.

It says change coolant at 10 years or 100000 miles. Not a lot to do on this car.

After a long discussion with Toyota they agreed that the scheduled maintanence guide is misleading.
If it didn't keep refering to page 21 where it says to drain & flush the system there would not be a problem. It does state to change the antifreeze at the 10 year/100000 mile intreval.
Thanks a lot guys for your responses.

    regards
