Was checking out the new items in the 2010 shop and saw hood deflector so clicked (I purchased mine at a local Toyota dealer about a month ago for $80).

There has been a blue Prius in some other product listings for some time so I did not think much of it until I saw the red bush to the left (and one yellow lilly)...then the textured driveway. Did not remember the little logo on the right corner being so prominent so went back to my album pics (which no one seemed to notice)...but there it was!

Not sure if I should be flattered or ticked off that I was not asked first : )? Guess once you post pics, they become public property

Not necessarily... however you should always copywrite your material with a watermark just in case. I am not a lawer so I won't say any more.

Not sure why you would want to in this case but since you can prove it is your picture you could either demand compensation or that it be removed from the site.

pdxrose - I think you should be flattered that they used your pic. But I understand your conflicting feeling that you would have liked to have been asked or at least told ahead of time that they were using your pic.

Go with flattery over indignation. It feels better and looks better.

    Nice car by the way.

I know this isn't exactly on topic, but what is the purpose of this 'hood deflelctor' and does it do the intended job? Thanks.

I suspect that it may help to deflect rock chips, but I wonder how it effects drag?

Good question but a couple of responses to other posts first: 1) thanks to Tom for summing up my feeling a couple of posts back - even a quick EM saying it was done would have nice :D and 2) Not concerned about privacy (more just a reminder to everyone...) but wondered about accuracy since I did not purchase my HD on the site's shop. Guess the mfg. only makes one model in one color, etc.

Back to why I installed a HD; I went through two Toyota Avalon windshields in Boise, ID in two years after rocks bounced off my hood and cracked the glass (one time the hood had to be repaired too).

Those experiences combined with my one and only previous HD resulted in the purchase. I had a Toyota 2x4 pickup in the early 90s in Atlanta. The area had non-stop building for years which means lots of trucks hauling rock, etc. The truck looked like new when I sold it 6 years later... seemed logical that the HD helped.

I had read so much on this site about the front hood paint attracting things that chip the paint...and after reading about the protective film, thought thats not for me (cost and logic), so I thought at $80 (free installation by the Toyota certified body shop since was in for another matter that I was not paying for) this was an inexpensive compromise that would be easy to remove (no drill) if I did not like it. Since the P angles are different, only time will tell!

The bolded part would not hold up in court when dealing with photos or music for the same reason everyone with XM radio is now paying a monthly royalty charge. You can not deprive the producer-owner of copyright by simply posting a disclaimer. A photo or music is subject to copyright law while the words in a post to a public forum are not. In the above the word "posting" would be limited to the content of the written words.

It would have deflected the rock that caused the chip/dent I have on my hood now. :(

pdxrose, I certainly never meant to upset you by using your photo! Sorry for not PMing you about it - my experience here on PC is that people are typically happy to see their cars featured in one way or another on the site.

Let me know if you would prefer that I take it down!

Around here, Hood Deflectors are known and marketed as Bug Deflectors. They theoretically change the air flow enough that most bugs are "deflected" over the windshield. Here in the northern Great Plains, we deal with all sorts of bugs, and yes, they do help somewhat. Stopping rock chips is just an added benefit. And because they change the airflow, I would think they would affect the CD of the Prius. Whether it would be noticeable or not is the question. I doubt that it would be much.

Its all good...though if not for my unique driveway, would not have known it was "mine" - would have posed next to it like Vanna White if I had known it was a candidate. Most of my posts get little response; guess my topics are not particularly thought provoking (as compared to the guy who killed the snake for instance)... :D

Good point. Looks like it would produce vortexes (vortices?) knocking down the CoE of Drag. Toyota engineers sweated the details on this; the deflector destroys that hard work.

I put a deflector on my Pathfinder and learned to hate it: the silicon cushion caught dust and so rubbed wear marks in the finish. Looked ugly too. Took a lot of work to remove the manufacturer's decal which further degraded its looks.
