No answer here, but confirmation about the tail lights. They seem to burn out much more often than on other cars.

I have 5 prii. First thing I did was oil change, ATF change, change all the bulbs, upgraded most bulbs to LED. Car is an investment. Bulbs burn out. Headlights (HID) is very common. LOTS of posts on how to DIY.

My 2004 has logged 110K miles and I have not replaced any light bulbs (or HID headlights.) You might measure voltage on the 12V bus when the car is READY, which should be ~13.8V. If the voltage is not much higher than that, I would guess that your car received a bad batch of bulbs.
