    OMG!
I thought I was going crazy but there have been times when I've "tapped" the accelerator and improved my mileage. I never reported it because I figured it was a fluke or assumed it was related to something else. I'm now going to try this for real and see what kind of results I get.

A Reminder from your friends at Priuschat: Always obey speed limits and traffic laws. Perform special driving techniques only when traffic and the situation allow. Before you attempt any special driving techniques please keep in mind that you are an adult, you are responsible for your own actions and no one, in any way, forced you to do it.

Is there any confirmation of this at the fuel pump, not just on the display?

Without confirmation, I think this sounds more like an 'undocumented feature' in the MPG display software. 'Bug', for those outside any computer industry.

The difference between my displayed MPG and pump MPG has widened significantly over the past two years, and I've been suspecting that increased use of Pulse & Glide, triggering more ICE on/off cycles, may be a factor. The method described here would push this to an extreme. But I haven't put this to any serious test.

I'd like to hear about any real life test for a whole tank.

    I agree with you, fuzzy.

There are times when I am transitioning from a glide to a pulse and the gauge still reads 9999 despite the fact the engine is now on and I'm accelerating. This happens very briefly but do it enough over the life of a full tank and the effect may be higher indicated mpg.

I'm not buying it until someone using this technique reports miles & gallons pumped.

BTW, the gap between my MID & calculated FE seems to have dropped from ~7% to ~5%. I don't have an explanation.
