Tesla files patent to integrate Starlink satellite antennas inside its cars | Electrek

Sounds simple enough but since the RF must pass through the roof - it will require whatever materials are necessary to achieve that objective. Suddenly the often accused of being a crack pot - Tesla head honcho starting up a rocket program makes it look like his focus isn't so distracted after all.

Now that he has been "uninvited' from the distraction, we will see if he leads to the kind of product improvements I want:
    • Improved battery chemistry and management - in 2019, the NCA chemistry and battery management was state of art. Seven years later, time and technology has left it behind but NOT STOPPED.
    • Affordable FSD - at $8,000, still pricy. I got mine Oct 2019 for $6,000 and it remains the most important part of the car.
    • Miles/kWh - no change from Tesla but Prius tricks have brought mine from 4 miles/kWh to 4.5 miles/kWh.
As for the satellite-cell phone (aka,, Starlink antenna,) go for it but I don't see that as replacing the car driving itself to where I want to go when I want to go. No phone call or data link is going to replace the need for physical transportation.

My 2019 Tesla has GPS/WiFi antenna in the folding, outside rear view mirrors. Somewhat marginal on my driveway, they are adequate.

As for distraction, will the Optimus robot drive me to Las Vegas?
