I'm reading the TGMO (Toyota genuine motor oil) Application chart. It show's the 2007 Prius is able to use 5w30, 5w20 or 0w20. My question's are..

    1.Has anyone used 5w20?
2.Would it be safe to do so?
    3.any benefits?

    Thank you in advance

If Toyota say it's safe it's safe. I use 0w20 in the UK and the dealer puts it in at 10k miles interval the car is now at 80k. I do get a marginal improvement in fuel consumption.

I think I'm going to use 0w20 in my next service with OEM filter. Should it be full synthetic or will conventional do? Has anyone used motor-craft oil in their Prius?

The vehicle has 123000 miles to my knowledge has only had conventional oil.

Nobody makes a conventional 0W20 as far as I know. Toyota 0W20 is a good choice if you are thinking of using a 0W20. I've never used Motorcraft but have no comments on it good or bad.

As I understand it 0w20 only comes in full synthetic but this has the advantage of running for 10k miles with no problem. Keep a regular check on your oil level and top up if required (if you do not do this already) as some people have reported there Prius using a little oil at that level of miles.

Has it been confirmed that this chart has been approved by Toyota USA? My understanding is that the chart is from Canada.

That's what I thought too Oldwolf. At one stage it was only in Canada and Japan in which they'd amended the specs to include 0-20W for the Gen2. It has been suggested that because the US covers a wide climatic range including some very hot places (as well as some very cold) that Toyota US might have been reluctant to do it.

Anyway, I don't know whether or not that situation has changed with regards to the Toyota US.
