Inherited a 2001 Prius from my folks. The master hybrid light came on, and we took it to a Toyota dealer who quoted us $700+ to repair some sort of water pump (forgive my lack of car part knowledge). Spoke to the repair person who used to handle the vehicle when my parents owned it, and he said he could do the work for $300. Sounds great! Now, the issue is getting the Prius from the Toyota dealer to the repair shop in a different town. My question, after all that lead-up, is why does Toyota recommend against using a tow dolly (like the kind you can rent from U-Haul)? I cannot seem to find a technical reason other than something along the lines of "Toyota recommends using a Toyota dealer or a professional to tow your Prius." Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

Purely capitalist statement... Scaring people is a really ugly way to exploit people's wallet. As long as the front wheels aren't spinning you can safely move it with a tow dolly...
