    Hi All

I took delivery of a 2006 silver prius with all the bells and whistles on the weekend and wanted to thank all the forum contributors for making the research and decision making process so easy!

We needed to overcome lots of concerns about the quality and reliability and this one site was able to not only satisfy the concerns but turn us into huge fans.

So far on the first tank we are running at 4.7L/100KM (I don;t know how that translates into MPG) but we are thrilled.

One question though - should we be running on regular unleaded (91 Octane) or Premium (95 Octane) - we got mixed messages from the dealer.

    Anyway - thanks all

Our regular in the US is 87 Octane and I think thats what most of us use.

The owner's manual ought to settle that question. In NA it advises regular; high octane gives no benefit.

I believe the Owner's Manual recommends 87 or 91 octane. So Unleaded Regular is the way to go.

    Enjoy.

My Australian manual states 95 octane. Having said that, my dealer said run it on regular and occasionally put in Premium. That did not make sense to me and still doesn't.
They filled the tank with regular when I bought the Prius but then again, they only had one pump.

4.7L/100km is pretty good! Senectus (also from Australia) got 900km on his first tank. We can only wish to get that kind of range on our first tank because we have a bladder in our fuel tank that isn't present in yours.

Yes, but this is the American gallon of 3.7854 litres. The British gallon is 4.546 litres so your 4.7l/100km is 60MPG in the UK.
Presumably the gallon in Australia was the British gallon.
