It's true, private party sale, check's in the bank, called in verified. pk 5, 14.8k mi, $18.5k. to a very nice couple.

I posted here to not get bonked in gen2 forum and well, I'm looking forward of course. Ad'd 12/28, 2 parties looked, deposit on 12/31, closed today. Nice to sell to real nice people. They wanted to buy private and not deal with dealers.

btw, a sales mgr. at Piercey where I bought it, bragged about getting someone's 2008 pk6 with 19k mi on trade in last week for .... $14k O .... K Think about that before trading. I've never liked the idea of trading in. I like selling direct to end user.

anyrate, gonna take some time and iron myself out.

    cheers.

Congrats cycledrum. Is the couple you sold to tall? Could they make use of your seat mod?

Thank you. Prius was for the wife who is 5'2", I had her adjust things up before test drive and get comfy with it. Husband 6' drove it home with her, not primary driver.

Car sold completely stock and completely unmodified original seat installed to spec. They were very appreciative of the condition of the car. They said it appeared new and if only they could take as good of care of it. They are homeowners here and I'm sure they will enjoy it and take care of it. Their best friend has an 09 Prius too.

Custom seat in the house with me. Maybe I'll see if a local person has any interest in it.

    congrats!

I have just listed my Saab for sale since I did not trade it in. Hopefully it will sell fairly quickly. I'm offering the Kelly Blue Book 'fair' price...actually a bit lower, which will hopefully help it move.

They mentioned seeing it on Craigslist.

I had some trouble posting on Craigslist: Published an ad on 12/28, but it didn't ever come up in search on any of our computers. Checked carefully, sent for help, got the auto response. Then posted on Autotrader. Reposted to CL 12/31 morning and the buying couple said they found it on CL that day, so Craigslist is good!

Good to sell cars when people are off for the day and feeling jubilant :)

I had checked kbb.com, nadaguides and edmunds.com, and they were fairly consistent given similar package, miles, condition.

first party to look was a 25 year old who was giving it more gas than I do, trying to feel acceleration. 4 of us in car. He was a decent driver, checked license. Were taking a circular freeway on ramp when an ambulance came up behind with siren, he pulled over. That has never happened to me.

Back at the ranch, they offered $15.5, told em they are in trade-in territory. $16.5 max, not close. Meanwhile, buying couple calls, got number. Suggested first party try for pack2 or higher miles. Test drive situation made me realize accident could occur and that would be very bad. It didn't.

    anyhoo, good luck on Saab

Oh, I'm sure there's a lot we can agree on.

btw, were you at GreenDriveExpo in Richmond, CA in October? Was it you I was talking to in line for PHV? I just remember this man was from Chicago.

Big difference between KBB and Edmonds for my car.

KBB has the 'fair' condition private party sale price at $3,525 and Edmonds has the private party price at $2,340.

    I listed it for $3,400.

I didn't answer your 2nd question. I never brought up the issue of using a custom seat for a year and a half, didn't want to raise a red flag. I knew the car was perfectly original when selling since it is so simple to remove a seat and install it again.

I think the wife will be fine with it as is.

I'm not sure, but I'm going to do what slowturd says ....

Test drive a lot of cars.

I have nothing to lose to go out there and test drive many cars within the budget. For now, I have the '88 4WD pickup, but I see the gas gage moving.

    Hi cycledrum,

Nope, It wasn't me. Work has kept me in the Chicagoland area here most of the year last year.

you save a little on tax here with a trade.
But you should do good with cash!! They say 5 Dollar gas is coming!!
You can buy a new Toyota Yaris 3 door hachbk for about 16 Grand out the door!

so Prius is gone, getting a Leaf right??!

CL is good. sold my Zenn on it. i also had posting issues. i simply kept reposting until it showed up. the one week expiration was a bit of a pain, but did allow me to adjust.

started at $5500 and slowly went down until it sold. could have got better price, but batts on the way out. buyer knew that he would have to pitch at least a grand for a new set. he was happy though. i guess he had a line on a cheap supply

was very motivated. he was from Seattle. he went and bought a trailer (yes bought one for like $2500) to haul it from Oly to his home 60 miles north!!

Trade in vs private depends on the car and age but normally private is the way to go. CL I think has limited success, using autotrader and cars.com to supplement is a good idea normally and not very expensive. I did sell my last car on CL but it seems to get only really cheap a55 buyers. I have seen some cars recently on CL (and looked at one in person to confirm) that are just going for a song and still people don't buy them.

If you can sell your car under KBB it's worth mentioning, but ultimately market is king; sometimes a car goes for more than KBB, other times less and the local market is in the end all that matters. This is why so many dealerships advertise "under kelly blue book".

The only people I talked to whose handle I know are F8L and darrelldd. I did see your spotted Prius though.

    Next time for sure :)
