I have only had the car for a few months...and I go out of my way to park it so I would not have to reverse out of the parking space, but that is not always an option....so help! I know its been done, not sure where to look...and it has to be in layman's terms, I don't understand any other language.
    Thanks.

try that site. I recommend printing it out and having someone read the directions to you as you attempt it. Make sure they arent sitting in the car as the instructions mention.

It took me 3 tries to do it but I'm really glad I did

In step 5 above, count to 30. Holding it too long won't hurt, holding it not-long-enough prevents the operation from working. I'm not sure, but I think the doors need to be closed too, since shifting out of Park with the car Ready usually causes warning noises if the doors are open.

Doors were closed...I'll go ahead and give it the 30 second shot in the morning.

Be sure you're sitting in the drivers seat and not the passenger seat.

I did it! I thank you, my passengers thank you, everyone thanks you. :D
Though, it took 3 times. I was sitting in the drivers seat, closed door, open windows (hot). The part that I was doing wrong was step #5. It says to press WITHIN 6 seconds..."Within" being the magic word, I took too long to do that.
....and reading further on, for those who still can't do it...this is important...."This sequence will not turn the beeping off for the European version of the Prius".

My friend has a 2004 Prius, not European, and we are having trouble getting this procedure to work. Anyone know if it works on the '04? I know it is the new style.

    Thanks,

    Don

A year ago when I bought my PRI the 1st thing I did was turn off the beeper using the methods mentioned in the above posts. Then I bought a small little round beeper from Radio Shop. I accessed the right rear back up light from inside the trunk and connected the little beeper to it. Now I have a much quieter beep-beep coming from the rear of the car. You can control the volume by insulating the beeper until you get the desired volume......

While my friend has an '04, I have an '07, and I was able to get it to work after about 3 tries. I even got the passenger seatbelt warning to silence as well -- now I can carry my laptop with having to belt it in!

    Keep trying.

Thank God for the search feature.

I actually disabled my reverse beep through a faulty search. Haha, I was looking for a how-to on installing a sub, and ended up disabling the beep instead.

I'm happy with it being off. :)

If the beeping really bothers you, maybe the radio isn't loud enough. Seriously, I was backing my car into the garage, and jumped out to open the garage door, and forgot to put it in park. As I momentarily started to get out, the beeping, which I normally filter out caught my attention, and I grabbed Park. Sometimes the beeper is your friend. For most people, it sounds like not.

I was just going to say -- am I the only person here who is not annoyed by the beep?
