    US Capitol police have apprehended an “aggressive” suspect accused of attacking a congressman and perhaps others. The alleged assailant: an unusually bold fox.

    Earlier in the day, police had warned of fox encounters in the area and said they were working to trap and relocate any animals.

    “For your safety, please do not approach any foxes,” police tweeted.

    A spokesperson for the Capitol police told NPR there had been reports of several bites and that a fox had been spotted on Monday around Senate office buildings. The spokesperson said foxes had been spotted before but described the aggressive behavior as “unusual”.

    I'm seeing more and more of them both in town and out in the county.
    We had a pair on our rural property that liked to frolic in front of the cameras at oh-dark-thirty.
    One night they left as a couple and only one of them (acted like a male) came back.

    No kits, so they either got in a fight and broke up (unlike humans, they are generally monogamous) or a car or coyote got one of them.
    The remaining fox eventually gave up and moved on.

    One of the last times I went for an AM walk in my neighborhood, I stumbled on a red fox that was not the least bit shy - which gave me some pause. The longer they hang out in urban areas, the more foxes have become crepuscular, or more active in the daytime and twilight hours and so it is no longer uncommon in these parts to see a fox in the daytime - but it still gives me the hebes to see one staring me down after civil twilight.
    I'm not worried about getting my butt kicked by a cat-sized dog but I'm not into rabies vaccinations even though they haven't been given in the abdomen since the 1980s.

    the only time we didn't have deer (and ticks) was the year a fox couple moved into the neighborhood.

    the downside was all the body parts i was continually cleaning up

    The fox was euthanized today, after its rabies test came back positive.

    Poor fox. I wonder which congresscritter it got the rabies from.

    P.S. Thread drift. We saw this one early last week, at the end of our long ski tour, between Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks:
