has anyone noticed that when you fill your prius, it takes longer for the first bar on the fuel tank to dissapear? Ive noticed this for a while but wanted to know if anyone else sees the same. THe remaining bars usually drop about 50 miles or so... but the first one is awesome. Today I drove 140 miles or so and then it only dissapeared. Anyone else notice something similar?

    thanks:)

Yes. The number of miles varies, but it always stays up longer than the others.

Yup, normal....I've gone over 190 miles once before the first bar dropped off.

I'm not certain the number of miles you put on the first "pip" really means anything, but I got interested enough to track it at least once.

It was exciting enough for me that I started a thread with a poll asking people to share how many miles they've had on that first pip. Care to share? Here: Max Miles on First Pip?

It seems that most folks get more than 150 miles on the first pip.

It's not that different on my 01 Chevy Blazer. It goes a good 30 miles before it gets to the Full line. Another 70 to 3/4. Another 60 to 1/2. Another 40 to 1/4.and 20 or so to Empty. About 220 miles on 16 gallons of gas. That's why the Prius had 1600 miles put on it in July and the Blazer 130 (sometimes we have to go separate ways)!

Thanks. I had a hunch that this was the case with all priuses. I love that first bar though!

Yeppers.....love that first PIP reading....we average anywhere from 174 to 180 on that first PIP...wish it stayed that way all the time...after that first pip it sure does go down fast.

Be careful that you're not overfilling the tank just to get a good first pip.

I usually get between 450 to 600 miles before the first "pip" goes off. :p

Yes well well known. Try Googling:

    Toyota Prius Gas Gauge

    Lots to read.
