Does any one read into the numerological representation of evil 666? "The Beast, Satan, Antichrist"?

Perhaps the non-religious posters as well as less-religious and deeply pious could share their own take on the subject including given verses from the holly scriptures.

Personally, I've never really gave it to much thought and I treat it rather as a superstitious interpretation, not to mentioned that one can't escape the barrage of use of '666' in mainstream culture.

I'd be eager to learn something from the followers of eschatology here on the subject.

BTW, Hollywood is releasing a new version of 'Omen' on 06-06-06 (June, 6th, 2006), is it just a gimmick?

    :)

Well, did anything significant happen on June 6th, 1906, or in 1806, or in 1706, or in 1606, etc.?

For that matter, did anything happen on the 666th day of the current century / millennium?

Oh, come on, who could possibly think up a gimmick like that. ;)

My dad thought it was funny once to tell me that Heinlein had said that the 'true' number of the beast was 6 to the 6th power to the 6th power, and challenged me to find it. It's this horribly long number (that I got wrong many times) and I only just realized how strange a little kid I was =)

I knew a guy who could find "666" everywhere. He even included "999" because it's 666 upside down. But would 06-06-06 count as 666?

The number of The Beast is 666---not 060606, or 06062006.

No, sorry, I don't think there's anything to it. The Bible simply uses numbers symbolically:
The number "6" in the Bible represents incompleteness, something that is lacking, imperfect, or defective.
The number "3" is used for emphasis in the Bible. So, 6 repeated 3 times just indicates how horribly inadequate the beast is, a failure in God's eyes.

On the other hand, maybe the Bible is mistaken, as it so often is, and the number of the beast is really 37,482.

Personally, on June 6 I plan on hosting a party where it is encouraged to drink six beers, six margaritas, and six of anything else within a six hour period.

Only people within walking (or staggering) distance to my house will be invited.

Personally, I've always gotten a kick out of "666" 5th Ave. It's the way they have it in big RED neon in the upper corner of the building...

You know which building I'm talking about don't you dsuman?

    "schmaltzy and apician"

Your intentional usage of such phrase is shameful, AT BEST. A nauseating tribute to sub-pretentious circles of more distinct, pious, pretentious circles that run amuck in NYC. Figures, I guess... :p

Might even get you "Diallo'd" in certain parts of the country, hit on, within others...

nothing did, still I'm curious of such fascination among many, hence the post about 666 and whatever connection it carries around with numerical interpretations and it's juxtapostions.

gee, even words intimidate you... I assume only squidly's vocabulary is NON-pretentious, but your lies about globetrotting and plyglotism are just humble NON-pretentious extroverting personality traits.

I'll buy that 666 is the mark of the beast, but it is a mark that will be placed upon a person under a particular condition or circumstance. Just the numbers 666 or any derivitive means nothing. Makes fo good conversation though...kinda like 13.

Hey Squid: is that the place that has a restaurant called "Top of the Sixes"? I ate there once many years ago. It looks familiar.
