Just wondering if anyone knows what happens if you mistakingly press the P button while driving at 60 on the highway.

Just got a seaside Pearl BC after an 11-month wait here in Boston. A dream of a car and PriusChat is a wonderful service.

    Thanks

Nothing but a beep will occur.

Thanks. I had visions of springs and gears flying. On first impressions, the gear shift implementation seemed like a klug, but I'm beginning to appreciate its simplicity and elegance. The Toyota engineers should be proud!

I believe actually shifts into neutral (and beeps). Not tried it though.

I think KMO is right...thought of that as I was walking away from the computer to feed the kids. Goes into Neutral and beeps.

Yeah. it beeps and goes into neutral.. same thing for Reverse.. beep and neutral. park.. beek and neutral. Start button doesn't do anything unless held for about 5 seconds.. then it's an emergency power off.

anything that's considered harmful in a normal car gets you a beep and a N.

I think Toyota should have included a real "idiot" light to complement all of the smarter-than-the-user programming they put into the Prius. That way, when I accidentally hit the "Park" button while reaching for the environmental controls (they were there in a previous car!), instead of beeping, the system could illuminate a single indicator on the dash:

    "IDIOT!"

    :D

Haha! Just what I need, my car telling me I'm an idiot. I already feel bad enough when my experiments don't work in the lab. :)

haha. But think about it. Doing the above will send it into Neutral. Do that in a regular car and kiss your transmission good bye

The Prius will immediately go into auto pilot mode, pull over to the side of the road and then start screaming "are you crazy or what" o wait that’s from KITT of Knight Rider :)

While we're down this line of questions, what happens if my car is on & I just walk away with the key? Or what if my passanger walks away with it while I'm trying to drive off?

Assuming you mean with SES, the car keeps running normally. (I think it beeps) If you shut it off the key has to be present to restart, but it keeps going until you hit power.

Without SES, you'd have to yank really hard and probably broke something. At that point you're on your own :)

Yes, I was assuming SES... So you could play a pretty mean trick on someone by taking their key as they drive off? They'd get a beep, but based on what I've read, the car tends to beep quite a bit as it is, so it may go somewhat unnoticed? They get to where they were going, only to find out they're stranded when they shut off the car. Hmmm...

You'd better be my g/f or better yet, wife if you are going to reach over and try to get my fob while I am driving!

I guess I probably just hang out with the wrong people... That, or my sense of humor may need some adjustment.
