Read it front to back ONCE and DO NOT have it memorized. did not see a choice for that.

I read it once, realized a bunch of things that I didn't know I had to know, and now refer to it on demand when I need to know something else that I've forgotten.

What I *did* get was a sense of how useful the manual is. I did not dismiss it out of hand as not being worthy of my time.

How about "I read the manual when I first bought the car and refer to it when necessary"?

That is that one that I would have used, if it had been a choice.

    How about:
"I read the manual, look things up occasionally, mostly just direct spouse to manual to get the answers he thinks I must know. There is an index!" :D

<_< Poll questions apparently were not well thought-out.

I have read my Owner's Manual thoroughly, but not memorized it. I have for many years been committed to reading the manuals on any equipment I purchase to try to understand the features and efficient use of the equipment, be it an automobile, telephone, toothbrush, computer hardware or software, etc.

In many manuals, I have highlighted salient information and sometimes create a supplemental Index making it easy to re-reference instructions I consider important. Although many manuals, particulary those for Oriental items, are not well-written, I feel it is respectful of others to gather available information prior to asking them to provide information found in a manual.

Just my individual point of view. ;)

Me too. Although I did find it difficult to read as far as manuals go.

I found out early on that reading the manual once gives you a firm understanding of the car. It also gives you an impression of where the information is located in the manual.

That second bit comes in handy when you're a member of an international car forum and people ask questions that can be found in the manual. While the rude people are typing "RTFM," you're looking up the answers in the manual and typing a response. This way, you're not only nice but also knowledgeable. Eventually, people trust you enough to stand close and turn their backs while you unsheathe the knife.

Holy crap. Did I type that out loud?

I have read it several times. It is not an easy read, which is typical of Toyota owner's manuals. They tend to be very repetitive and have pages worth of safety warnings.
