Things I learned thanks to PriusChat before ordering my car (that made a difference to me)...

    1. I don't want the trunk mat, as the color doesn't match the dark grey interior.
    2. I need a Prius III if I want the steering wheel buttons for the phone Bluetooth.
    3. I don't need a Toyota extended warranty, Geico's extended auto warranty will save me well over $1,000 ($1,800 vs ~$600).
    4. I can get 3.99% financing via penfed.org (which I did).
    5. I can save quite a bit ordering Toyota accessories online.
    6. I can probably get Toyota mudguards by ordering them from a european dealer.
    7. B-mode does not save gas.
    8. There are some decent aftermarket leather seat options.
    9. Vinyl guard front bumper protectors make sense.
    10. There are many smarter people than I here.

Nothing like a little research before a purchase! And this is the place to do it!

However, the majority of the ocnsumers never do much research. I believe most people buy a car based on monthly payment and possibly color. I wonder if Prius drivers in general are much more pre-purchase research oriented?

Hey Rick, just wanted to point one thing out. The difference between the Geico and Toyota warranty is the deductible, they will have the work done at certain shops, can use rebuilt parts, and normally don't have a 100%money back guarantee.

At least those are the differences in Hawaii. I have had numerous insurance agents buy our warranty for that reason. They understand the differences and know that just because it's cheaper, it's not necessarily a better deal.

Thanks, but two things that are not entirely accurate:

    1. Geico lets you go to any repair shop of your choice. Nationwide policy.
    2. Toyota warranty only promises "genuine toyota parts", there's no promise they won't use a rebuilt part.

I learned those things too from this forum. ;-)

Do you or someone in your household have to be in the military for a penfed loan?

My father was a Naval officer a zillion years ago.

Gen II Priora have phone buttons on them, at least for answering and hanging up, if you have the Bluetooth option.
