    Hi..

I am new here and the "proud" owner of a 15.3MPG Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. Recently I started considering a Prius and ran into a 2011 Prius Five with 15K mi for $26K ... it looks pretty nice and seems to run great. A 2012 similar vehicle (plus the 2012 upgrades) runs in the low $30K's which is a big diff. I have not been able to find another 2011 Prius five around to compare prices .. and the asking price seems below the kbb reference for retail. Any suggestions or pointers? Is this price a good negotiation starting point or a great price to jump into?

    Thanks for your time ...

What state do you live in?

I just sold my 2002 Envoy that I drove for eight years and bought a 2007 Prius Level 5. I LOVE IT. Trust me, you wont be missing that Jeep much!

The reason I ask where you live is that Prius pricing varies from state to state based on demand/popularity. Where I live (Metro Detroit), a 2011 Level 5 Prius with 19000 miles is going for $23k. I found another one with 9500 miles for $18,500 but Im unsure what level it is (looks to be a 3).

Shop around. When it feels right, go for it. And that Jeep can join my Envoy in the "we're sick of paying $80+/week in gas to keep you running so we are upgrading!" club....lol

    Welcome!
I used to have a CJ5 back in the day. It served its purpose. Most of the SUV's we had subsequent to the Prius? Not so much. We do a bit of snow driving, so the extra ground clearance in a SUV is nice (but not too esential) - so we got the hybrid SUV. It's a trade off. But when the snow drive issue goes away - it's bye bye RX-400h. Get the Prius! 99.9% chance you won't regret it.

Another aspect that I am trying to nail-down is the relationship between my commute and how much a Prius will help vs. another smaller vehicle.

My daily commute is 23.4mi total (read: round trip). Basically:

    [One way]
2.3mi -> residential roads (not much traffic) to interstate ramp (25Mph, 45Mph, 55Mph combination)
6.6mi -> interstate stretch (not much traffic at all) (65Mph limit)
2.8mi -> interstate exit to my office (50Mph, 40Mph combination)

So, I am not sure that a Prius will make the most difference with such easy and short commute. My current vehicle (2011 JKU Rubi) is yielding 15.3MPH on this commute (manually calculated b/c the computer reads all over (15,16,18MPH)).

    Thoughts?

That's pretty close to my commute - just under 20 miles. I can plug in at work. For the little bit that the ice turned on - I was still getting 99 miles per gallon.

Yes - the PiP - although it's not currently my daily driver. However I should qualify that I've gotten as high as the mid 70's mpg's - on several tank records ... even in the Gen II. - and 'only 60mpg averaged over 8yrs ;)
but still - on a 20 mile drive you'll get in the 90's.
