I was wondering if anyone has tried tire siping to improve the traction of the stock Goodyear Integrities? If you have, have you noticed if it also affects ride noise and or comfort? My hubby has noticed how noisy the stock tires are, but so far isn't suggesting new tires so... looking for a cheap way to make these tires better until they wear out in 3-4 years.

    Thanks

3-4 years? don't count on it. we got 28k/about 2 years on ours. save the money, put it toward your next set.

    Hi Fernsmom,

I put Michelin Hydroedges on my car after 5000 miles. The Hydroedges are factory sipped, and silicon rubber compounded, which as the name of these tires implies makes then nearly faultless in rain. I got 20 dollar per tire trade in and 100 dollars off for a set of four Hydroeges on a special NASCAR promotion run by a tire chain back in 2006. Funny, I do not think their marketing guys were thinking they would pull in Prius drivers with that ad campaign!

I had my second set of OEM tires siped when they were installed. The siping results in a different noise but seemed to be much more comfortable than the original set and really improved traction last winter. I got close to 30,000 on the original set and am now at about 57,000.

I'm not sure they will sipe your tires if they have been on the road a while. They don't like hidden rocks to dull their sharp siping blades.

After 20,000 miles I had to replace the originals. I siped them and they also lasted only 20,000. I also lost 4-5 mpg which I attribute to the increased friction. I won't do it again!

Never heard of the practice but I live in a dry climate so maybe that's why.

Toss them out and buy some real tires. The OEM tires are only suitable for tire swings, and even then, I'd advise against swinging too high and avoid swinging during wet or snowy weather.
