Why do the tires on my Prius wear out so quickly? I drive at legal speeds on good roads and have the tires rotated every 6000 miles yet I only get 30,000 miles on quality tires. ( My other vehicle tires get twice that.)

How many sets of tires have you gone through on your 2006 Prius? The factory tires are only good for 25 - 30 thousand miles. What tires did you put on after you wore out those?

By quality tires, you don't mean the GY Integrity right? It's rated pretty low on TireRack, http://www.tirerack.com/tires/surveyresult...;speed_rating=Y

They wear our quickly because they were designed to not last all that long. Tire wear basics:
    1) Tires have the wear rating stamped on them and on the mfg. web sites. The range is 200 to 800, just like SAT scores.
    2) The low end of the range for major manufacturers is 450. The Integrity is 460. (i.e. It will wear out fast).
    3) The high end of the range is 740 and above. These will last a long time.
    4) The highest wear rating for a Prius tire is a Michelin HydroEdge with a wear rating of 800. This is what I will get when the integrity wears out. I save money this way since I can go through a lot of low wear rated tires during the time an 800 rated tire will last. I have learned it on my 01 Prius. I finally broke the habit and got tires that saved me money by spending more up front.

    Dude,
    What are you doing??

I drive like a madman and got 55,000 miles out of the stock tires and have 60,000 on a set of goodyear assurance tires!

I mean< i actually get the VSC to kick on regularly when I round corners and I still get great mileage out of the tires.
And 42 MPG over 114,000 total miles!
