I'm taking a 06 end of january so I'm just lurking around here seeing what the deal is.

I am curious what the top end is for speed? Anyone ever gotten out on the open road and went for the gold medal?

I saw a post one time along the way where someone hooked up to 153kph which must be somewhere around 100mph.

Is there a govenor that shuts you down at some level?

Yep, you can't exceed about 105. In a hurry, are you? :D

Remove the software limit (not possible by us) and it can hit 135+.

I would disagree this requires unloading the car i.e. Seats etc and a secondary cooler for the inverter as well as reprogramming the ECUs . I think you would need a few (more than a few) Toyota Engineers in your pocket. Oh BTW there may be suspension and other changes, better check on that!

Well, if the race for the gold medal goes horribly wrong, I believe that the Prii’s low coefficient of drag will cause it to reach a terminal velocity of somewhere around 168 mph soon after it crashes through the mountain guardrail and plummets toward the valley floor.
There is a max number there somewhere. I don't care to be the first to find it. :p

    101-103 is most commonly reported.

On the Bonneville Salt Flats, a Prius with beefed-up batteries and a lower final drive ratio hit 136 (actually a little more, likely, as two speeds are averaged) last summer. Toyota sponsored the run, BTW.
