Tow Eye cover pops out

    <_< The front bumper cover "PLUG" for the tow-eye hole has developed a habit of popping out now and then. Fortunately it is tethered and hasn't been lost.

    Anyone have a suggestion on how to "tighten" it to avoid this irritation and avoid the possibility of losing it?

    Other than some sort of shim, how about a small amount of contact cement or rubber cement? It's not something that gets used that often. If it's just a small amount it should hold, but be able to be removed.

    if that's that's a pic of yours... uh.. your left tooth looks a little bent in as if the plastic has decided to give away... uhh.. glut somethign behind it?.. like.. to inforce that piece of plastic (left tooth). otherwise, that's a strange problem. have you used the eye hook?

    I had similar comments except that you might try some tape either on the clasp or where it grips on the bumper to make the attachment tighter

    A little invisible tape on the outside, maybe? I use some white sticky stuff for mounting posters and such. It's cheap and resembles white Silly Putty. I can't recall the name of it, but it's fairly common in big grocery stores and craft places. It will stick without marring the finish or solidifying like bubble gum would. A few little bits around the inner flange should do the trick.

    Forgive the crudeness, but what I was thinking was a way to support it through the eyelet on the other side. I was thinking perhaps a string through the holes of the hooks leading back to a metal or wooden rod that is wider than the hole.

    Simpler still is a thin rectangular piece of styrofoam that presses against the inside of the two tabs, glued to the back of the plug. The foam will give enough to yield, allowing you to remove it when you want. But it will remain stiff enough to hold the tabs apart enough to grip it in place.

    :) Agreed about the left tab looking deformed. I haven't used the tow eye. And, YES, that is a pic of my cover.

    Several good, practical suggestions. THANKS.!!

    You're welcome for the suggestions. i agree that a small piece of styrofoam will work best. Just a tab of superglue or two to make it bond with the plastic.

    creative thinkers we have here... but how many of us does it take to change a lightbulb? :rolleyes:
