They could just say “We’re making a bigger Highlander”.

Well they did show a "large SUV" last December in their big EV introduction. Looks suspiciously like a Highlander.

As far as a Grand Highlander PHEV, if they can come out with an RX 450h+ which is arguably heavier at 2240 kg (4,938 lbs) than the RX 500h at 2190 kg (4,828 lbs) I'd say it would be possible. The old RX 450h is about 200 lbs heavier than the current Highlander Hybrid. They'll be built using the same platform, TNGA-K. Here comes the zinger - Lexus is coming out with a TX 550h+ (F SPORT Performance Plug-in - very similar to the Hybrid Max except with a plug-in) next year and they are going to be very similar in size and built on the same line as the Grand Highlander. My guess is the TX 550h+ and the Grand Highlander Prime(? Prime Max?) will be built in Japan like all of their plug-ins.

Did Pontiac ever pay royalties for..

...well what the heck is an "Am" anyway, and how did they make some grand? One of the impenetrable mysteries of GM.

Did they sell an Am or Prix without the Grand?
Jeep is going to have second model get a Grand sibling soon.

Got briefly curious, seems Grand Am is like Grand Prix, it comes from racing, though the Prix goes back to horse competitions. Or maybe named the car after their grandmother.

Either way, the grand is a different grand referring more to rank and position than size and luxurious.

What's in a name? I'm pretty sure there are now more Fiats running around with "Willys" painted on the side than there ever were O.G. production.

Renault also used Grand on their larger versions of models e.g. Grand Scenic
