    Hey Everyone,

My local salesperson says the dealership uses semi-synthetic oil. I am sure it is supposed to be 0W20 motor oil and I wasn't aware you could get that in anything besides synthetic. I'm hoping he was wrong and misinformed and they use synthetic. If not, I may just take my Mobil 1 0W20 to them and have them use that instead....

Maybe he is using semi-knowledge or maybe the dealership is using the stuff they buy in 50-gallon barrels which could be anything. AFAIK, 0W20 is synthetic, and that's what's best for the engine to go 10K miles before the next scheduled oil service.

I bring a 5-QT MobilOne container and tell them to use that in my car. I am really hoping that is what they have used.

Thanks. That is exactly what I thought. I only use Mobil 1 in my vehicles and I sure hope they change my oil using synthetic. If that is what is recommended, that is what they should be using.

You can get 0w-20 in a synthetic blend.

i would expect all the dealership's to use toyota approved lubricant's. but that may be expecting too much.

By "semi-synthetic" does he mean they are using a synth-dino blend, or a "fake" synthetic (e.g. Group III) oil?

Is Mobil 1 still made from Group IV?

First off, if it's 0W20, it likely (if not conclusively) is synthetic. Still, my take: if it's "0W20", and a quality oil, that's all that matters.

Would the dealership care/dare to show you the oil they're filling your car with, if you ask nicely? If they can't prove it, or won't show you, then bring your own oil.

If you can't trust them to use what they say they are using, go somewhere else.
