Did the dealership give you the trouble codes that they found? If so, please list them.

Check to see if the Hybrid battery is still in warranty. I believe it is 10 years or 150k miles, whichever comes first.

    Welcome Ryan,
Your in the gen4 forum, so a 2016 battery should still be under warranty or just out of warranty. I believe they are warrantied for 8 years or 100K miles. Beginning in 2020, the traction battery warranty went to 10 years or 150K miles. If your just outside of manufacturer's warranty, ask for a "good will" replacement, this usually works if your a loyal customer and had all your work done there.
The other alternative is to look for a traction pack out of a front end wreck.

    Good Luck....

get the trouble codes from the dealer if you paid for them. it is possible that you need a new battery on a 16 year old car, but it is also possible that the corrosion could be cleaned up.
you will need a battery eventually if not soon, and $2,700. is a pretty good dealer price.

the milage is actually only 166,000 on my 2008. I just don't trust dealerships. its basically to late my parents insisted on getting it replaced. my girlfriends car is a 2008 and has 211,000 miles. runs fine just like mine. im really not happy I didn't get to see it. I would have looked at it but they already pulled it. really not happy about it at all.

If you knew it was just one terminal that was corroded you wouldn't have sent it to the dealer for diagnosis. So you're opening post is quite misleading. It's like you're bashing the dealer and they haven't even done anything other than diagnose it. Sounds like you know more than they do and you should fix it yourself because you're clearly a hybrid certified qualified trained ASE certified Toyota master tech.

They're not going to clean a terminal and then have you come back with a car that needs a whole battery pack later only to have you complaining that they should eat the bill. Sounds like you would complain no matter what they do. You are the customer I refuse to do work for.

It is important to post your topic correctly.
You have a 2008 Prius Gen2, but you are posting in the Gen4 discussion section.
There is confusion and you will not be able to receive helpful answers.
Please post topics correctly in the future.

I'm seeing this in the generation 2 for him I don't know I don't even see the generation for forum in my list and I'm getting ready to remove the generation 3 for him because well you know. But yeah this sounds like a whole hullabaloo story here anyway there you go I don't know if I would come to Prius chat to complain about the dealer but yeah cool sounds like maybe mom and dad had more to do with this than whoever this is I don't know You're in Virginia so most people I know in the Virginia's don't be running to the dealer that much until they feel they're forced to because of knowledge problems or what have you anyway good luck 2750 The battery not too long ago was 1650 cash and carry I'm sure the dealer is only paying about $1,400 for the battery if not less and then they're making $1,300 to put a few screws down and put the panels back in I do that in 30 minutes or something similar so I could have saved myself 1300 some odd dollars but then retail prices of the batteries just changed for most people unless you have a dealer account at the Toyota dealer so there's always that If this is happening right now that's a pretty good deal actually

You would have done nothing but play whack-a-mole and been here complaining for a month about whatever you'd be complaining about so this year will eliminate that right out of the box next you'll be dealing with the break actuator and maybe the CM monitor display we'll see how fast you maybe get out of the car I don't know Good luck with it It's a great car to deal with if you can deal with things in general.

mileage is actually good for these batteries, usage keeps them balanced. without the trouble codes, there's not much we can say except maybe, maybe not

I really hate to add to your paranoia, but I don't know any dealerships that will just change one battery in a traction pack. They usually sell you a whole new pack. A legitimate dealership will worry about the warranty aspect of changing that one module - if another module fails within your warranty period - how do they deny your warranty claim? You know there have been many here that have already tried that. Some get another month out of the car and others get several years - It's a "crap shoot". Do your own due diligence...

    Hope this helps....

I did none of them where a bad hybrid battery P0A80. I know the pictures suk but does this look like a brand new oem battery. there's a date time wheel on the black plastic but I can't read it.

recently red triangle ️ only with red car with ! on dash display.

car was running fine. 56mpg. no difference in feeling.

took car to Toyota dealership (my mom uses same). they told me they would give me a call when they diagnose it.

my mom calls me and says your car is ready to pick up tomorrow they replaced the hybrid battery. I was pissed

for some reason they decided to call my mom???? they said there was some corrosion on 1 cell and whole battery needed replacing. so she's tells them to replace it.

I stop by ask for details and codes pulled. Don't have code on me but it wasn't a hybrid battery code. (P0A80A)

I would have at least demanded to see new battery before installing. from what I understand a brand new oem includes the entire aluminum shell etc.

pulled back carpets out there sits the original old dull aluminum shell???

is this normal? I pulled the cover off the said new battery. I am a mechanic but know nothing about hybrids.

was looking for some verification of a new battery but really found nothing but a bunch of dust.

I have a few pictures. there not very good but hopeful someone may see something. there is a date code (old dial type) on the picture with the black plastic but its hard to read. I couldn't cipher it.

    does this look brand new? 20240907_114125.jpg 20240907_114035.jpg 20240905_163930.jpg 20240905_163930.jpg

They do come in a new case, and you have to transfer the ecu and a few other things

To confirm the manufacture date of the modules you will need to take a photo of the tops so we can clearly see the white writing and QR code as outlined below.

    Modules.png

The battery label shows the date 17 April 2024 (dd-mm-yyy) I'd expect the dates on the modules to be within a couple of months of that.

The battery certainly looks new and I doubt the case has ever been shiny when new. As already mentioned, only the case encompassing the modules is new; the electronics bay is transferred from your old battery.

Old batteries are covered in fine dust and dust bunnies occur on the underside frequently. Yours is spotless. The date code is new. Why don't you trust them?

I do now that's why I came here. and the main reason I didn't trust them is because they could not give me a code pulled that designates bad hybrid battery which is P0A8A0. they zero codes on the hybrid battery and the car was running fine. battery was charging etc. plus 166,000 miles only??? would you not be suspicious????

I don't understand what this code is that you speak of. Can you help me with this one? Screenshot_20240912-010701.png
