Well, there was some discussion why the car has been showing up so slowly:
Toyota gets 100,000 orders for new Prius - The Japan News

So they sold 2x of yearly Nissan Leaf sales in the first month, not bad. Apparently they know what they are doing :D

I agree. I respect the long term investment Toyota has been making in hybrid tech. They are the best, and It's paying off wonderfully for them. Although 100K is only 10K more than HALF the 180K orders they got the first month of the 2010 model release. From same article.

I don't think that's a bad thing as it's probably due to the 2010 being too good to replace.

Considering that in 2010 there were only a few hybrids in the Toyota lineup, this is a pretty good result so far. Now they have almost all models in hybrid form and some people will be going for rav4 too.

Just to be clear, this is the sales number for Japan, or globally.

That has some pretty slick packaging. I like the way the third row seating can be hidden under the second row.

Perfect vehicle to market as a Scion, might help revitalize the brand.

Or maybe you would like it without the contrast colors. I think it's brilliant, would like to see these wheels on Gen 4 Prius ; Sweeeet! 【シエンタ】イメージムービー2,

    From the article:
Soon enough the skeptics will cherry pick last paragraph to claim hybrid sales are collapsing.

I don't think it's that ugly (the mini-van). Looks like a small mini-van. A box on wheels. If you want ugly, look at the ...well, I guess if I can't say anything good I'd better not say. ;)

Maybe it was because I was "new" to the Hybrid game in 2010.
Or it may of been because there was a lot of simultaneous build up and hype with the release of the "New" Gen 3 Prius nearly simultaneously with the New Honda Insight. Lots of pre-release comparisons.

But I just don't feel the same level of excitement or "event" with the release of The Gen 4 as I did with the Gen 3.

Toyota has tried, I just don't quite feel it in the same way.
In 2010 you had people pre-ordering, and then tracking their Prius's delivery on the seas.
There was a sometimes annoying competition to be the "first" owner in any given region.
The Gen 2 had been such an iconic success, that I think the next evolution was met with a more anticipated level of high expectation.

There is excitement and expectation, I do think the Gen 4 is going to be a success. BUT..I think it might grow MORE after it starts hitting the streets.

I think it's existence in the tangible real ownership world will fuel it's success. Less anticipation...more realization, once it is a readily available product.
