Toyota just announced an increase in the MSRP of just about the full lineup of Toyota, Scion, and Lexus models, including the Prius. Effective for vehicles with scheduled May arrivals from Japan, the Prius will increase in price by $470 across the board. This increase looks to be attributed to Toyota's forecast of increasing production costs following the earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan earlier this month, but even North American-produced vehicles are seeing between a 1.2 and 2.2 percent price increase. The new pricing will be as follows (effective May 2011): Model Old Price New Price % Increase Prius Two $23,050 $23,520 2.0% Prius Three $24,050 $24,520 2.0% Prius Four $26,850 $27,320 1.8% Prius Five $28,320 $28,790 1.7% If you were on the fence about buying a Prius, now might be a good time to go down to your dealer and put down an order for a pre-May delivered Prius. You can spend the extra $500 in the on fun accessories in the PriusChat Shop. [Source: Toyota Press Release]

Out of curiousity, did you happen to get the amount of the increase for the Highlander Hybrid? I just pulled the trigger on Tuesday as supplies were dwindling in the Chicago area and dark colors were already nearly impossible to find (I had to drive 3.5 hours to get one near invoice price). We're now a two hybrid family...

Bummer! I wouldn't be surprised if Toyota's doing this is partly because:
    - they can
    - HCH and Insight sales are still puny
    - high demand due to high gas prices
    - seeing that people are (apparently?) willing pay to current MSRP anyway (w/dealers being less willing to deal due to the tsunami and earthquake)
    - to make up for the yen/USD exchange rate that has been tough on Toyota and any other cars made in Japan.

Buckle up, here we go .. this is starting to sound a lot like 2008* ...

    * different scenario with aftermath of earthquake, sad situation.

June 2008, Prius largely out of stock nationwide, $500 increase about that time, package 3 and 4 virtually non-shipping, so, it's 2 (base), 5 or 6, making customers get navigation.

Waiting lists everywhere, 3 months common wait to get your Prius, my 2009 .... almost 3 months wait... or take what's available.

Wish I had a photograph of the 2008 package 2 prius with aftermarket (kluge) sunroof and leather seats in Fremont Toyota showroom with $40,000 asking price. That is not a typo.

I was being a little obnoxious in showroom over that.

'Prius waiting list support group' thread here ... 10,000 posts, 100 pages of thread.

toyota raises prices every year for inflation costs:
Toyota announces $400 price increase on 2010 Prius — Autoblog Green

these 2011 price raise falls within the same numbers as previous years (between 1% and 2%)

Sorry, Darren, I screwed up your OP when I updated the story. Everyone should know that Darren posted the story first! :D

The HiHy increased by $650 on both models. $550 on the non-hybrid version.

Lol thanks! I'm also on the Toyota media distribution list as I do auto reviews periodically for my blog, but I didn't get the actual pricing numbers. I guess I bought our new wheels just in time. Not only for pricing, but there won't be any left at the rate I've been seeing supplies dropping in the last week.

I sent you a PM- I'm curious how you changed the author. I've been wanting to do that on my forum for a long time, but never noticed such an option. I'm guessing it's a plugin?

How much did the 2011s go up compared to the 2010s when they first came out? So this price increase is a mid model year price increase? Does Toyota usually do that, or do they usually just wait until the new model year arrives?

I have noticed they have not raised the price of the Lexus CT200h, wisely so as this is a new model!

I don't recall exact figures and chronology but Toyota Vehicles : Toyota Announces Prices for 2010 Prius / Toyota was the original 2010 Prius pricing.

http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii-2010-prius-main-forum/69521-prius-i-other-news.html was a 2010 model year price increase.

It's due to the supply and demand. $470 price increase is not usual now since they had a slight increase, about ~ $200 end of year for the 2011.

I know we're supposed to have shortages but I just looked at the three largest dealerships here and stock on new Priuses is 8,9,8, respectively.

Truecar claims a $500 increase in price since Feb on the 2011 prius. Local best price is now $23,300.

Clearly a clever plot designed to encourage me to buy the Lexus!

Now, if I just wait another month for those shortages to develop, I'll be able to sell the Prius for what I paid for it, right? :D

The 2010's price increases were masked by additional features. USB was added, price went up. Safety Connect was added, price went up.

Don't blame Toyota for not delivering the color/package you want. Blame the Region for not ordering your color/package. Blame both of them for not caring about what you want.

I have a 2010 and don't have USB or Safety Connect. Did I pay too much?
