    Toyota Recall (MSN)
This is going to be a financial nightmare for Toyota. What's going on lately?

Another case of much ado about nothing.

Once again, Toyota is openly recalling vehicles to fix a known defect. They are not hiding, just being responsible corporate citizens.

418,570 vehicles recalled, 8,476 of them 2001 Priuses. And what does the subhead say on MSN? "Automaker's hybrid Prius model eyed for faulty engine part." Talk about negative press!

It's probably a case of cost cutting gone nuts. A few years ago Toyota started to agressively look for ways to reduce costs, not just for new models, but for every model year a car was produced. This is probably why there have been faulty steering bolts (cheaper materials), bad breaks, faulty engine mounts, and the like.

Cutting costs isn't a bad thing, but when you're myopic about it (as toyota has been) bad things happen. It's probably no coincidence that Toyota's recalls have doubled every year for the last few years.
