After only it's 3rd race, the Toyota hybrid race car came in first place. Congrats to Team Toyota.

That is cool to hear. Toyota collects a bunch of data on racing that can be used to further refine their hybrid line.

It is pretty amazing that they won in their 3rd race... it will bring up hybrid status for sure. Lots of people hate hybrids because Prius is "slow"...

The first race they entered, there was major fail. It was a shame because they were looking competitive with the Audis. The second race the car was entered, it came in second.

I was just reading up... they actually did not plan to run full time, just 2 races, before Le Mans with 1 car and Le Mans with 2 cars. They are running on very small budget right now. Of course, it is the guys that already did FIA WEC before as well as F1.

What changed things was Peugeot suddenly dropped from WEC so Toyota got full entry in so the LM P1 class would not be shut off, since it requires 2 manufacturers.

They crashed one car so they are running on only one as budget did not allow for the spare car :).

Otherwise, full budget without entry costs is $80-100 million, it is the most expensive series after F1. I think TF1 got into it since they could promote hybrids, which they cant in any other series, and LM P1 class lets them do almost anything they want... their super capacitor based system can release 300hp to the wheels :)
