I have a 08 Prius with 158k but it probably has never changed transmission fluid before. So I just changed the trans. fluid few days ago but manual also said the front differential oil has to be checked. I checked everywhere around just couldn't find the filling plug for the differential oil. Are they sharing the same fluid for lubrication for trans. and differential? Once the trans. fluid has been replaced, there is no need to take care of front differential?

    Welcome to PriusChat!!

You are correct. Curious which manual would say such a thing?

Must be one in the same as I've never heard of a separate reservoir for differential...

Same fill port, same fluid. A 'transaxle' is a combination of a transmission and final drive/differential.

Curious if you could post a pic of the manual. Toyota USED to have separate drain and fill for the transmission and differential on FWD cars like the Camry, but went to a common sump sometime in the mid 90's.

Ahh yes... We've had an expert on here, I think it was @Elektroingenieur once mentioned that aftermarket repair manual makers tend to cut and paste previous written repair language from older vehicles without checking if new vehicle is different. So that probably explains it...
