Not sure if you have to be Canadian for this; don't see how they could verify: Canadian experience with vehicle headlights and glare at night One personal irritant for me, is front turn signals tightly integrated with headlights, rendering the signals near-invisible. I can recall, night driving, sitting at a red, waiting to turn left, and studying the vehicle opposite, TRYING to determine if his left signal was on. I thought so, but damned if I could tell for certain, through the glare of the headlights. Asked the missus, her response (paraphrasing): "no..., no wait a moment, yes". I actually emailed Transport Canada (author of the above survey) about this once, got a polite brush-off.
Maybe this is a Canada thing??? Here in the states, In my experience, less than 20% of the drivers out her use their "excuse me" lamps. I do, most of the time - it's a bad habit I'm trying to break. I ALWAYS use them if I need to squeeze into a tight lane change. Unfortunately; some will accelerate and force me to cut them off. They were holding their distance, until they saw my blinkers activate and that was the only place I could make a 'safe' lane change.
Agreed on the turn signals, some are worse than others. We do the same thing, questioning each other. Some headlights are obnoxious these days, blue and bright. Inspections don’t mean much anymore . Government surveys, unheard of here except the census. They wouldn’t be worth the paper they’re written on, or electrons
