I've read the announcements this year about the $3,150 tax credit for a new Prius. Assuming I bought one before Toyota hits their sales number limit under this provision of the tax law, would a demo model with say 2,600 miles on the odometer count for this tax credit? I fear there would be some provision that the car wasn't really new when you bought it...

Any ideas out there on this one?

    Thanks,

    Frank

Usually the dealer will indicate on the Bill of sale "NEW" or "USED" I bought a VW Passat a few years ago from a VW dealer and it was a demo with 4,000 miles on it. My Sales receipt listed it as NEW......I think the criteria in my state for NEW is that the dealer still owned it and the car was never titled...Hence NEW...

As I recall, the law states the 'original owner' gets the tax break. I'm guessing this means the dealer is not counted as original owner.
