I am in desperate need of a new car and my company will give me $6,000 if i buy a sustainable vehicle. I know i want a Prius, but i don't know which one is a better choice. Before i get into this, let me start by saying i'm a single man and i drive sparingly. Only about 200 miles a month, but regardless, i still cannot be without a vehicle.

He is the deal: I have a friend at a Toyota dealership that say's he can get the price on a new Prius C down to around $17,500 (before taxes,etc.). The other one i'm eyeing is a 2007 regular Prius w/ 76,000 miles on it, for $13,00. Realistically, after all the added fee's, i expect the price difference to be $5,000 to $6,000.

Some people keep saying "take the new car, they're giving you all that money. It's a no brainer." But I'm very hesitant to buy a new car when i'm barely going to use it. I know it's the better deal, but the bottom line is that i just don't need a new car. On the other hand, 76,000 miles is kind of a lot. I keep leaning towards the used car, but most of the people i've spoken to are convinced that the Prius C is the better choice.

What do you guys think? This is my first time buying a car so any advice is appreciated.

welcome to priuschat! if you don't mind the smaller size, i'd go for the C. if you decide on the 07, you still have 3 years or 74,000 miles on the hybrid warranty, but the rest is 3/36 and over. some hybrid (and other) components can get expensive. how long do you plan to keep it?

If I drove only 2500 miles a year and I get $6000 for free, I would buy a late model 2008 or 2009 prius with high mileage 130k-140k miles. Most owners worry about the warranty on the battery at that point and get desperate to sell their late model prius before the warranty runs out. They are willing to sell it quite cheap possibly $8500 or less. You can drive the car for 4-5 years and still have the coverage for the hybrid battery in effect. After the car hits 10 years old and 150k miles, you can sell it for $6000 (2004 with 150k sell for that price now). These cars are quite reliable up to 150k so I don't believe it will be much of a risk. After you sell the car at 10 years and 150k miles, you might even make a little money at the end.
