    Hey everyone,

Has anyone here bought their Prius used? I am thinking about getting one, but I am nervous because I've heard that the battery can die at 100,000 miles and of course, it's expensive. Do you think I can utilize a 2006 or 2008 model for another 10 years if I put maybe 60,000-70,000 miles on it in that time?

I am looking at a 2006 with 57,000 miles or a 2008 with 96,000 miles. Is it better to buy a newer car with more miles or an older car with less miles? Suggestions please!!

    Thank you!

There is really no difference between the 06 and 08 models, so I would go for the lower mileage car. You should have no HV battery problems unless the car has been in an accident. If it has, the location of the impact could affect the life of the battery.

Toyota Warrenty the Battery for 100,000 miles/8 years . That does not mean to say that they will suddenly die. Look around the forums - there are many examples that have done well over that.

I'd go for the lower mileage one as long as it has been properly serviced, as another 60K would put it at 120K which should is better than 160K when you come to sell.

It depends on the prices & the options on the cars. Run both VIN at http://www.toyotaownersonline.com/index.html

A car of that vintage generally has plenty of life left in it.

I just recently purchased a 2007 with 75,000 miles. No complaints, no issues.

When I buy used cars I pay no attention to mileage, I prefer cars with clear maintenance records, and this car had every service signed off on at the dealership I bought it at, plus a notebook with all gas fill ups, tires, etc.

i'd be comfortible with the 06, but you have to be aware of the possible (although a small percentage) potential high cost repairs just in case. keep your eyes open and due dilegence. good luck!

Comparing 2006 with 2008 I think you should just base your decision on price, mileage and on which has the best known history.

How does the price on the two vehicles compare?
