I bought a used smart key off of Ebay. My son took it to the local dealer to have it programmed.
They worked with it and could not get it programmed. My son called me and I talked to the tech. I suggested that he call their tech line. He said it wasn't necessary since he had programmed a bunch of new ones recently.Hesaid the battery tested good , but it just wouldn't accept the programming. He said the fob was bad.

Does anyone have the name of a dealership that have SUCCESSFULLY programmed a USED Smart KEY?

It was really aggravating that they charged $40 to NOT program it!

Is it the correct version of key? The old SKS fobs will not work with the new Prius, or the other way around.

Maybe it is broke. Maybe that's why it's used.

The broken ones work equally well with both the old and new Prius.

DH has programmed SKS fobs that customers have brought in to him, but i guess maybe they could have all been brand new ones. he's never had an issue with it.

    Who is DH??

According to everything I had read, it is the correct fob. We have an 05 and the Ebay fob looks exactly like ours.

A lot of Prius that are sold used, do not have the second fob or the cargo cover with them. I have a friend that buys used cars at auctions such as Manheim, and a lot are without a second fob or cargo cover. The seller can get a $150 or so for a used fob and a cargo cover.

that's what i was trying to say. he doesn't know if they were used or new because he never asked. customers have brought in fobs that he has programmed successfully.

now if they don't fire him for taking medical leave last week, he can ask the next time this situation pops up.
