Went to the show and they have the Prius there with the PSD and the and MG's and the ICE cutaways in a cut away Prius. A most interesting display. For the Prius owners and wanabes here in Vancouver, it's an eye opener. As to the size of the PSD and when it operates you can see thru a cutout in the Ring gear to see the planetarys turning. So we wander over to the Toyota booth and what is on the counter is John1701a fact sheet on the Prius. Sat in all the hybrids available except the LX400H and the Highlander, Lexus was locked up and the Highlander had a long lineup. Worth $12 just to see the Prius.

Lucky! I think the Highlander was locked when I went.

I posted 3 pictures of the cutaway Prius in the album. I actually have another thread on the autoshow with the links

thanks Tideland for the links. What did you think of the size of the PSD? Did you also notice the Audi CVT on the upper level? compared to the Prius a lot of parts in there.

The PSD is small! (well, relatively). It was cool to finally see the two motors/generators that you guys have been talking about.

I actually did not see the Audi CVT on display upstairs.

Edit: Do you have more pictures of the engine compartment area of the Prius?

I wish I had known about it. My wife and I were looking for something to do last weekend and a visit to Vancouver is always welcome. Darn

    Told ya!

I got to check one out in-person last year, at the Minneapolis Auto Show.

Reading about it being so small is one thing. But actually seeing it for real is another. It's pretty cool knowing the heart of the hybrid system is actually the same size of your own heart. Interesting, eh?

Perhaps I should put a disclaimer on the PSD document stating "larger than actual size".

At the auto shows, I have a lot of fun hanging around the Prius listening to comments of people passing by... not revealing my "secret identity" until someone gets really stumped trying to figure out how the hybrid system works.

Try it sometime. Stand there without saying anything. Then eventually, sound off by saying you've drive one of those to the show. That sure gets their attention.

Actually, I did that last year (before I bought my car) in Edmonton. This year, I just gave the Toyota reps your Info Sheet and basically gave them the low-down owner's experience so that they can better answer the questions when I'm not there. They loved your sheet

That picture boggles the mind. I had no idea. The PSD is smaller than some of the drawings of it! That is truly amazing. I think I need to sit down and try to grock this.

    • The very, very complex CVT transmission from a competing manufacturer
    • some photos of the Highlander and Lexus hybrids
    • A few of the Ford Escape Hybrid
    • The engine compartment from the Honda Accord Hybrid

      • I'll leave them up so long as people don't wreak-havok upon my webserver :p

A real concern at 8 mb each. How about reducing them to something like 100 kb each? That is, if it wouldn't be too much trouble. Thanks.

Can't get uncompressed pictures at 6mp resolution that small :p

It's OK, I've got business ADSL so it's not a big problem (unless I wanna play some games, in which case, my server might become sort of "unavailable" for a few hours :p), or if something like slashdot links to me... But that's unlikely.

The pictures look great. And it's nice to be able to zoom in without losing detail. Thanks.
