I replaced my Toyota Tundra with the Prius. I might end up regreting it. Let me tell you, while owning the Tundra, I had to fill up every 3-4 days apx. 25 gallons worth of fuel. We have this 2 yr old Citgo station down the street that has a really nice car wash. They give you $ .20 off per gallon for buying a car wash. They start at $4.95 and up. Well, you do the math.. yeah, I got a free car wash every 3-4 days!!! My truck was spottless... Now, I go every 8-10 days and only fill 10 gallons max!!! I am soooo pissed. I actually have to pay for a car wash now!! And, I end up driving a dirty car around!! Oh, this ticks me off. Yeah.. yeah, I could wash it at home, but with working many hours and 3 kids fighting for daddy time, it's not on my priority list. So, I think I'm going to look at the new Tundras tonight!! They are bigger and worse MPG with a bigger fuel tank!!! Wow, I might be able to upgrade to the $6.95 car wash at no real expense to me!! Yeah, that's what I'm going to do.... 10mpg Tundra here I come.....

    hehehehe... :p

    Whatever.

Here in the winter, the sand & roadsalt prevent your car from staying clean longer than 10 minutes at a time. You just get used to the vehicle being dirty all the time. Of course even if you could clean it, the chance of a door seal freezing shut isn't worth it anyway.

I think the " hehehehe... :p " makes it pretty obvious that he isn't serious.

For that matter, I'm pretty certain that the math of buying less gas and paying for the car wash would still come out as a net savings over buying more gas and getting a free car wash.

He's obviously either joking or trolling (I'm betting joking). Here in the Greater Chicagoland Area, we get plenty of salt on the roads during the winter to prevent ice, and our temps frequently get cold enough to freeze door seals.

So you would rather spend more money on gas and kill the environment more efficiently so as to get free car washes?

    Let's do the math here:

    Tundra:
    25 gal * $2.80 average fuel price = $70 per fill up
Fill up twice per week: $140 per week

    Prius:
    10 gal * $2.80 = $28 per fill up
Fill up less than once per week: $28 per week at most

So that means you could fill up the Prius FIVE TIMES for the same cost. Somehow I think you could afford the car washes....

$140 - $28 = $112 saved. Let's just say you absolutely needed a car wash every few days. You could afford 22 car washes at $4.95! I don't think you could get 22 car washes in a week....

    Your math doesn't compute.

$6,843 per year to drive 22,812 miles at $3.00 per gallon for the 10 MPG Tundra.
$1,521 per year to drive 22,812 miles at $3.00 per gallon for 45 MPG in the Prius.

With just the difference of $5,322 dollars, you could treat your Prius to TWO of the $6.95 deluxe car washes per day. And that is not counting the $101 you would still be earning on the 20 cent per gallon discount on car washes. :p

Yep, you are a brilliant economist.

P.S. Citgo? <_< Hugo Chavez thanks you.

Oh my god! I read this post and found it hilarious. Then I read the responses and was flabbergasted. How can there be such idiots on this forum. Can you imagine what it's like living with such people at home, who have no idea what a joke is or what sarcasm is? I feel bad for their families.

P.S. Citgo is owned by Chavez.

For what it's worth, I was with you. You might try this smiley: ;)
The winking eye usually tips off the slower of us that you are being ironic. Other than that you might try the ever popular modified html tags <sarcasm> and </sarcasm>. Beyond that, chalk it up to the fact that posters tend to be a wee bit sensitive.

It isn't that Citgo as a company buys their oil from Chavez, it's that he (or rather his government) owns the entire Citgo company.

Other companies such as Shell, Exxon, BP, Speedway, Marathon, etc may purchase some of their oil or gasoline from the middle east, but the actual companies are publicly traded and owned by the stockholders.

As to what is worse or what is better, that depends on you first learning a bit about world politics and corporate practices, and then deciding on what your personal priorities are.

As I understand it, if people don't buy their gasoline from Citgo stations, then the Citgo company will just sell their gasoline to other stations were people do buy their gasoline. You really don't affect Chavez pocketbook buy refusing to buy your gasoline from Citgo branded gas stations, but it makes some people feel like they are at least making some sort of statement.

I've heard many times in the past that gasoline is a fungible commodity, but it's never been clear to me just how fungible it is, or how the process works of one company using gasoline manufactured by another.
