True, if it weren't for them we'd be speaking either German or Japanese.

I posted this same thread on a half-dozen other boards. All have pages of support for our troops.

I can't say that I'm surprised in the least that PC has ignored it.

I believe it may be partially due to the lack of traffic on the board today or because it is currently such a charged topic. I already got in trouble once today for commenting on the subject so I'll leave it alone and just say that from the threads I have read in the past years, most PC'ers respect and honor those who have fought in the name of their country.

Thanks, F8L, a reasoned response as always.

Pity that it's even considered to be a charged topic though.

I also honor those who have served and those serving including those here in the US today whose loved ones are in harms way. May God Bless them and keep them safe. And of course, God Bless the United States of America - a country that inspires its own to keep and protect it for generations to come.

    Same here.

My favorite part about Veterans Day and Memorial Day is to wear a Navy tee or sweat shirt and have old WWII veterans approach me for a talk.

Like my father and three uncles, most WWII vets don't really want to talk about their experiences much. But for some reason, those two holidays seem to make it OK for them to break out of their self-imposed shells and chat with someone who they feel will have a sympathetic ear.
That's my way of thanking them. :)

By the way - in years past, I would be approached by several WWII vets in the course of a day. This year, only one. They are rapidly disappearing. :(
