Wait, where does it say October? I don't see it in the linked article.

Interesting to read the triumphant title of the article and then read how they paid back the loan. From the article: " The loans were reportedly paid back from reserves with government investment money."

    What a spin.

Re GM paying back the loan ..... Spin? You bet. They only paid back a fraction (13% as I recall) of the $61 B the taxpayers loaned GM.

Now many doubted the taxpayers would ever be paid anything ... so 13% is good, but the people still own a very large share of GM.

Good news, since we are shareholders. I wish GM well with the Volt. The more vendors in the hybrid/EV arena the better for competition all of the way around.

Like I have said several times in other threads, I truly hope either GM or Ford has the vehicle that meets my requirements at the time that I will be replacing my wife's car.

    From the article:

And yet the loan total was not $6.7 billion. It was somewhere around $60B or $70B. So when the same article that says the Volt will go on sale in October, also says the loan total was one-tenth of what it actually was, we're supposed to believe it???

Please learn the terms of the deal before saying things like that.

The entire LOAN was paid, the entire BAILOUT has not been. The BAILOUT is still intact as the government (us?!?) still owns 60.8% of GM itself.

The current (final) loan payment included interest, and $2 billion was paid before. The government has made a profit on the LOAN but not on the BAILOUT.

GM has also paid off the Canadian government loan.

I thought the officials denied the October rumor.

Call it what you like; since the government is not exercising any actual control over GM (as an owner would!) and not getting any dividends, the bailout is effectively a GIFT, which is worse than a loan.

You are doing what lawyers do: Using subtle distinctions of definition to mislead: A normal person reading the article would think that GM has now paid us back in full, when in fact it still has $60 billion of our dollars, call it what you will!!!

So the article lied on BOTH counts! Thanks, seawolf.

Wrong again. The government still owns its 60% portion of GM and GM (whatever you say) still has value especially now that most of its debt is gone. The government will sell that portion and make a profit, possibly a large profit.

I was NOT for the bailout, but it seems to have worked. I think its pretty clear the government would have lost more money through lost taxes (income, property etc) and unemployment payouts then they have already spent net on the bailout.

First of all it is not lawyering, its spinning. Second, I did not write the article and I would not have personally used that language. That however does not make it untrue.

    From the link:
"But we wanted to see if anything had changed, maybe, this time. Dave Darovitz, who handles corporate communications for the Chevrolet Volt and the fuel cell Equinox, told AutoblogGreen:
As you can expect, we're pretty excited about the market potential for the Chevrolet Volt electric vehicle. Our plans and focus have not changed - we continue to drive toward a flawless consumer experience when we launch in the fourth quarter this year in California, Michigan and Washington D.C."

    -------------
This does nothing to counter-act the many articles that say the release is moved up to October. October is in the fourth quarter.

He clearly stated the plans and focus have not changed.
