    Prius Chat Community:

Always wanted to be in a Toyota ad? Well, we have a special opportunity for our current Toyota Hybrid owners out there in the SoCal area to be a part of a Toyota Hybrid ad. Our parent company, Toyota Motor Corporation, is shooting a mini advertising campaign in celebration of a key upcoming milestone and the shoot will occur in the LA Area (close to LAX) on Saturday, February 23, 2013.

We’re looking for up to 30 owners (per call time) to feature in this unique shoot. The campaign will include owners in a digital video and may also include them in a print ad which will appear in a prominent global publication.

    Shoot call times:
    A) 8am-1pm
    B) 1:30pm-5pm
    C) 8am-5pm (both scenes)

To express your interest in participating, please send a private message to the Prius Team by 9am PST Friday, February 15th with the following details. We will notify you if you’ve been selected by February 18th and provide additional details then.

Details to include in your Private Message:
    • Name(s):
    • Shoot call time available (please indicate A, B or C ):
    • Email (this will be our primary method of communication):
    • Cell phone contact (for use day prior/of in case of changes due to weather):
    • Please attach an amateur photo of you with your current Toyota Hybrid

    Requirements:
    • Must be 20+ years old
    • Must currently own a Toyota Hybrid (hence the photo)
    • Must be able to drive to the shoot location (transportation to and from location will not be provided)
    • Can’t be a member of SAG, AFTRA, or any other actor's guild or actor's union.

    Some key details:
    • You don’t have to know how to act, dance, sing, this is going to be a very basic scene with no special skills required.
    • Like any shoot, you’ll be required to sign a standard release agreement once you check in.
    • Selected participants will receive a modest gift for their participation as a token of our appreciation.
    • Please do not plan on wearing any clothing with logos, advertisements etc, we ask that you show up in rather plain clothes for the day that are comfy and bring layers in case the weather changes. Examples of preferred clothing include: non-ripped jeans, khakis, solid t-shirts, polos without logos, button up shirts, etc.
    • Sorry, we can only host you and up to one household guest who can also be featured in the shoot (they must be 20 years or older). Unfortunately, no extra family members or friends are able to participate in the shoot, this is intended to be an authentic owners only shoot.
    • If you participate, you’ll be asked to hold back any photos/videos you take on site until a specified embargo date.
    • Lunch and snacks will be served (lunch will likely occur in shoot call time A, but may change according to on site shoot needs).

I hope to see some of you on February 23rd!

    Best,
    Erica Gartsbeyn

I think you misread that, GC.

SoCal refers to South Collingham. And that's not very far from you.
    You're in!

I'd love to bring attention to the Rav4 EV. Will that also be in the shoot, or just the Prius variants?

This shoot is only going to include Toyota hybrids, not EVs or FCHVs, sorry Tony. But, there is more work going on right now to bring additional attention to Rav4 EV, it's just a separate project.

    Thanks,
    Erica

    Ok, here's the deal.

    A) You fly to Huntsville AL
    B) We put an arrow at the base of the windshield "THIS SIDE OR YOU DIE!" pointing right
    C) You drive my wife's car and I drive the 2003 Prius to LA
    D) After the shoot, we top off both cars with quality gas
    E) We get a bottle of Pacific water
    F) The 2010 Prius tows the 03 East maximum MPG speed, shortest route. Two drivers.
    G) When 2010 Prius runs out of gas, 2003 Prius tows 10.
    H) Arrive Gulf of Mexico and disconnnect tow bar.
    I) Take pictures of "Two Prius - Coast-to-coast - One tank each"
    J) Issue press release

Get some salt-water fishin'. Drive to Vicksburg casinos. Arrive back in Huntsville. You fly home with the sign and winnings.

    Bob Wilson

ps. ~1,412 miles (Google), 11.7+12.1=23.8 gal (US)-> 59.4 MPG . . . with Bob 'tweaks' to both cars. Estimated duration, 56.5 hours, just over two days living in the car(s). Two nutty drivers, pretty much non-stop except at the crest of hills to 'fertilize+irrigate' local fauna.

    lol

It'd get some press attention, that's for sure. (y)

Not sure on the cost of temporarily importing a car all the way over from Blighty, nor the insurance costs, but it'd certainly be one to consider when I win the lottery.

You don't understand, my wife and I have two Prius. We'll take mine, the 2003 and borrow hers, the 2010.

Only the tow vehicle will be another Prius.

Ok, I'll bite. How do you manage a front wheels down tow with a Prius? Towed vehicle powered up somehow? 30 mph max in neutral? Disabled parking paw with power off?

Ok, I'll bite. How do you manage a front wheels down tow with a Prius?

Special fittings that bolt to the front tie-down anchors and a Harbor Freight tow bar. The 2003 has a 2" receiver and the 2010 a little smaller. Both have 2" balls that fit the tow bar.

    Towed vehicle powered up somehow?

Only around town where the ~450W is insignificant. For the marathon, energy must be conserved so the trailing car will be in a low-power state (i.e., 12V battery disconnected.) Tail light power will come from the towing vehicle. May disconnect two legs of trailing vehicle MG1 and MG2 from inverter to minimize risks and leave them in insulated caps.

    30 mph max in neutral?

Maximum range speed is ~18 mph for a single Prius. Because of the close coupling and lower aerodynamic drag, a slightly higher speed for the two car setup. I'll have to 'do the math' and some local tests to confirm 60 MPG is achievable before the effort.
    • minimize rolling drag - tires, alignment, and lubrication
    • minimize aero drag - bumper block; flex coupling between Prius, and; rear wheel well covers
Disabled parking paw with power off?

Only the 2010 has that problem and it can be 'defeated.' The 2003 has a mechanical, parking paw so just leave it in "N".
