    I have a 2008 Prius package 5.
I got a warning light on my main panel.
It is a red light with a key in it. It is not the same as the yellow car and key light that comes on when you leave the car with the smart key inside.
This light stays on when the car is locked and blinks when unlocked.
It is not the alarm light LED that normally stays on.
Twice I had a hard time starting the car with the key in my pocket. The battery in the remote seems fine. I just can not find this warning symbol anywhere in the manual.
Does anyone know what it means. It is on even when there appears to be nothing wrong with the car.
The light and symbol are off when the car is on.
    and ideas?

That is the light that tells potential thieves the car has an immobilizer. What you describe is normal operation.

If you're having trouble getting the smartkey to work with the FOB in your pocket, check to make sure your cellphone is not close to the FOB. Other RF emissions can also block the FOB from responding to the car.

Look in the manual for "immobilizer".
