2006 Prius, while driving the red master warning light, the malfunction indicator lamp, and brake system warning lights came on. Dealer said I could drive it home - 6 miles and then get it in for service asap, when pressed he said just don't drive it for months with the warning lights on.

I assume it is a brake issue and while I dislike paying dealer prices are they the best source for diagnosis and repair?

It very well could be the inverter coolant pump failed. It will be replaced free by the dealer. To check if the pump is working, open the hood, place the car in READY and open the cap on the inverter coolant reservoir. If you see turbulance, the pump is working. No turbalance means the pump has failed and you should not drive the car any great distance.
