I have a 2005 Prius with 135k miles. Yesterday the red exclamation light came on and also the hybrid system warning light. I shut the car off and it came on again. The third time the car started normally and it is driving normally today with no warnings. Does this sound like the 12 volt battery? It is original.
    Thanks.

Yes it does. It needed replacement a while ago. It has lasted its expected life and then some.

You should use a code scanner to see what DTCs are stored, if any. You wouldn't want to miss something if it's not only the 12V battery and you end up getting stranded somewhere miles from home.

Thanks. So far it is ok. If no more warnings show up then I will wait for the next oil change and have the codes checked.

It is now set to put you down anytime and anywhere. Best to replace the 12V at your choice of time and place.

Yes. Today all the warning lights came back on and my wife could not shut the car down or move it. This was 30 miles from home. I arranged to have it towed. Luckily, I hit the power button twice and it did go off. I then was able to drive to the dealer. The car died when I shut it off right at the dealer. They had to jump start it onto the hoist. It was just the battery. Quite expensive - the battery alone was $230.00. Next time I will take no chances if I see a warning light.

Sorry to hear it let your wife down. Good you were able to get it towed. Bad it was towed. Lots of reports of damage from being towed by people who don't know what their doing. Good you got the battery replaced. Bad it costs so much for the genuine "special" battery for this car. A little late now but there are much less expensive alternatives.
