Don't tell me I, a west coaster, was the only one to see the episode and report it first here on PriusChat.

    "Hyper-Milers: 'Gliding' Toward Fuel Conservation
Small Group of Conservationists 'Squeeze Every Last Drop' Out of Their Gas Usage

Today, after he unplugged his car, Mitchell allowed 'Nightline' to join him on his daily journey to downtown Chicago. Every inch of it was designed to maximize his gas mileage."

Nope I saw the segment here in Phoenix as well. :) Ironically I was on the forum with my laptop when it came on and plugged priuschat. I held up my laptop and showed my wife that I happened to be on the same forum. ;)

Yeah, it's somewhat poorly written (or transcribed), but it's mostly positive, which is nice.

Maybe by "extension chord" he meant a special kind of musical combination that improves fuel efficiency. I'll have to learn to sing that one because playing guitar while driving is dangerous.

I saw it last night. I thought that it was pretty well done. Maybe some Prius owners that just drive their cars like a regular car will learn from it and start applying some of his techniques during their daily commutes. I wish they had shown more of the MFD screen when he talked about pulse and glide. I give the segment an A-.

Avoid anything diminished; they kill your mileage.

Do you think they got my good side? They called me Wednesday afternoon to see if I was interested. I told them to contact Wayne Gerdes (xcel) also and they said they left a message with him. Wednesday evening they called home and said they wanted to do it Thursday morning at 5AM. Thursday they come at 5AM, get the inside shots, outside shots and off we (myself, reporter, camerman and equipment) go on my ride to work. Once parked some more footage and then I'm picked up after work, cameraman rides home with me for additional footage. And it's on Nightline 4 hours later!

All in all it wasn't bad. I did point out CleanMPG for the MPG tips and PriusChat for the Prius. And the 62.8 MPG I pulled in the morning was going to be a 70+ trip, traffic and the car were in perfect alignment. But I had to do some extra starts for the footage. And we stopped about 3-4 times so the cameraman and reporter could switch positions or vehicles. In the afternoon on the way home, sans block heater plug-in, I pulled a 67.9 MPG. But why show the better results. Some of the reason for, what I thought, the good video was the cameraman and sound guy were the same crew that were at the Hybridfest MPG challenge shooting for Good Morning America.

    Way to go, Wayne!

I'm sure some of the critics at the ABC site wish they could get 63 mpg in their autos. For a cold morning commute with a few extra people in the car, that's pretty darn good!

    Congratulations Wayne!

On the ABC News site with the print story, the same drive-by-morons are condemning him for not riding a bike or CTA (mass transit)...replied that he is going over 60mpg while every other driver in Chicagoland is probably not going over 20mpg...don't you suspect gas guzzlers are deflecting?

I doubt the CTA busses get 63 mpg per passenger too.

Great article. I can't find the video.
I'll post the article on the Chicago Prius Group site.

BTW, I'm still trying to figure out who "wolflover" is. ;)

How has everyone been viewing the video?

It asks for a password and account.

Somewhere it mentions that certain ISPs can access the video, but I couldn't find anything under the Comcast page.

I saw it on the late night news about 3 am - yes I have insomnia.

I liked the report and thought the discussion on hypermiling was cute. I need some lessons on it from you guys, because my mileage at 1700 miles is 42/per gallon.

I liked that it said not to be too obnoxious with stopping traffic behind you and trying to remain considerate of the traffic. I guess the 2 moron news anchors hosting the news (not the story reporter) were not even listening to the actual story, because they slammed the idea of hypermiling and assumed all hybrid drivers were jerks, and inferred that it was not worth the milage savings.

I saw the blurb about festival and the guy getting outrageous milage, over 100 miles per gallon - how did he do that???

    Way to go TonyPSchaefer.

And looks like Wolflover might be Wayne's wife.

Left my own little jab at the bashers.
